W4 D3 Short fast run

According to today’s schedule I was set to cover 5Miles with 3 of them at a fast pace. As I’m not very good at doing fast sessions on my own on the road I once again headed to the treadmill. I think soon I need to try upping the pace on the road so I know that I can close to doing what I do in the gym.

The schedule required the 3M to be covered at approx 8:15/M as I write this blog my brain has kicked in and I’m starting to wonder whether I actually ran fast enough (I hope I did). I set off at 15km/h and throughout the 4.6km I did not drop below 14km/h. Was that fast enough? (Goes off to get paper and do maths…) Oh good, as expected, much faster than the required 12km/h – good good :-) I guess that makes sense as RW define it as ‘brisk’ hopefully my changing it to a fast isn’t an issue!

That’s my 3 midweek runs done, at the weekend I have a slow jog in prep for a ‘race’ style event. Apparently by now I should be able to do a sub 47min 10k and tomorrow I will plot out my route and give it a whirl. I think this is going to be ambitious but who knows, I think in the summer I got a 10k to sub 46 so I know I can do it, it is just whether my body is ready for it yet. That said, I have booked in a session to see Chris at the Sports Clinic on Saturday which should hopefully see away the last knots and twinges I have in my leg from skiing!

Till next time…

Wk2 d3 Missed a day already…sigh

Yesterday I had to finally admit to skipping on a days training. I’m clearly not 100%, feeling poorly and very heady. I had planned on getting up early and doing the 10k on the road as on Tues the ground was starting to look a lot less slippy. On weds I woke up to another overnight snow dump and coupled with my feeling ill I decided the rest day would be most useful for me.

Weds schedule was a 10km slow and today was a brisk/jog interval split. I figured the intervals may have been more useful for me so opted to skip the slow and go for the later:
1.6km @ 10.9km/h
3.2km @ 14-15.5km/h
1.6km @ 10km/h

True to tradition of a runner had some odd twinges in my left leg, going to put that down to the increased training I’m doing! Did use the foam roller today to massage my leg a bit when I finished to try remove the knots…

Tomorrow is the short warm-up to Saturdays ‘long run’ hopefully take it nice and slow and get me going!

Till next time…

WK1D4 – Saturdays Easy Run Rescheduled

nasa-snow_1555054f
As I’m not around to run tomorrow morning I have had to reschedule once again! Currently my training to a plan hasn’t gone all that well but I’m hoping that by doing the run during the week that this is enough. According to the schedule today was supposed to be a rest day and tomorrow a slow run of 4miles in 40mins, according to my calculations I needed to set the treadmill at sub 10km/h…

As usual, that was too slow for me so I ramped it up a little to about 10.5km but stuck to that for the 4M(6.4km) @ 1% incline. Quite a long time but as I went before work I watched the news and as they have Sky News on in the gym I got a good chuckle at the poor quality setup of that network and also the stupid things that channel will do for entertainment in particular today on the news i saw the following:

Sky News reporter Katie Stallard was forced to spend the night on Dartmoor after getting trapped in the snow. She and her film crew were rescued by a gallant 4×4 driver who towed them to the village of Princeton. (link)

To summarise, Dartmoor was cut off because of the snow, they got a few vehicles moving (mainly 4×4′s then Sky decided to send in their own reporters who then got stuck and are now cut off themselves, all for cutting edge journalism!

Next run – sunday hopefully – Long slow run of 8M according to schedule (subject to change ;-) )

WK1 D2/3 Snow Cancels Play

3255930609_2d56156d14In a complete shake up to my recently constructed running schedule the snow started falling putting an end to my D2 5m Slow Run. To compensate this I changed the schedule for D3 to bring me a bit more upto speed (to be read as – I ignored the D3 schedule too and came up with my own plan….Looking forward in the schedule on week 3 I noticed an “Interval Session” so decided to give that a go during my lunch break.

Once again – as before, I think I must have done my maths wrong and done something different to what RW were suggesting because if it wasn’t they are really pushing things. Anyway, i did the following

1.6km (~1Mile) Jog @ 10.9km/h
1.6km Fast @ 14-15km/h with 400m recovery (10.9km/h)
1.6km Jog @ 10.9km/h

I think i must have done some parts of it wrong as I ended up running 10kms. Did it in about 48mins but that was a hard session and not something I could do on the streets, well not yet anyway!

Next run most likely tomorrow as am shifting Saturdays easy run over as am away at the weekend, most likely on the dreadmill again as its a little slippy outside!

First ‘big’ run…

Finding time to get out there and do serious training is tricky at the moment. Having recently purchased a property most of my free moments are filled with diy or in b and q, however, Sunday morning alarm set for 7am I was up prepping myself for a 7/8miler.starter-gun

The SIS stuff back out again as i start feeding my muscles, one of the things I picked up from my last run was poor fueling – I will be getting this right this time!

I was out the door by 730, pounding the pavement with barely a sole in site – this is dedication I thought to myself at the time, then remembered this was not going to be the last time over the next few months!!

The route I chose was an old one, introduced to me by my father, it is undulating throughout and is a loop with no repetition. In clockwise it is tough, anticlockwise it is insane with a good half mile steep incline – I chose clockwise!

The run itself wasn’t to bad, I was a lot slower than in my peak but that is to be expected really as my training has been scaled back massively. Reached the 7mile marker which is the home straight and tacked on an extra mile, this may have been foolish my legs were ok with 7 but I really felt a difference in that final mile.

However, a very promising initial run, next weekend push it up a bit more and get a session in on Wednesday. Will start reviewing training schedules too and get out the diary…scary times follow once again!
